This pack compares the work of firefighters today with the work carried out by the first organised fire service.
In the introductory section, pupils are guided through a typical day in the life of firefighters from both eras, in a storybook style.
The main session and plenary includes interactive activities designed to emphasise the similarities and differences between fire fighting in the 19th century and today.
The following sections of KS1 history in the national curriculum for Wales are covered:
- 1.2 Use common words and phrases relating to the passage of time
- 2.3 Identify differences between ways of life at different times
- 4.2 Ask and answer questions about the past
